Consultant Paediatrician – NovaVita - Specialized Paediatric Hospital

JOB SPECIFICATION JOB OBJECTIVE: The Consultant Paediatrician will be responsible to provide post- acute transitional care and elective paediatric services based at NovaVita Specialised Paediatric Hospital (NSPH). The Consultant Paediatrician will work with four specialists based at NSPH, providing inpatient high transitional care to neonates. As a consultant he/she will be in charge of the clinical unit. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Responsibility for day-to-day management of the NICU and all associated work will be shared by the associate specialists. Responsibility for supervising the specialists work, organising the on-call rota, and medical personnel leave. Provide stand by week-end and on-call services in a manner mutually agreed by the post holder and hospital management. Run paediatric outpatient clinics. The Consultant will be expected to have experience in wide range of general paediatrics neonatal intensive care, and post-acute care. Added expertise in the area of paediatric pulmonology would be an asset. He/she should be competent in the diagnosis and management of all aspects of emergency paediatric and neonatal conditions. The Consultant will be expected to participate in the organisation arrangements for safeguarding children. Establish and develop links with the regional neonatal and paediatric units. While maintaining complete clinical independence, he/she will be expected to work with colleagues as a team. Undertake their core supporting professional activities including CPD, governance and departmental meetings. The Consultant may have an opportunity to take on a portfolio within the department’s extra supporting professional activities e.g. clinical service lead, governance, rota coordinator. Participate fully in the appraisal system and requirement for revalidation. Lead the multidisciplinary management of babies with complex needs. Work closely with paediatric colleagues, nursing colleagues, and Allied Health Professionals. He/she will have considerable contact with colleagues providing educational and social services within the community. Participate in the medical input to multidisciplinary management of child protection. Lead and participate in health promotion programmes. Examine patients or order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical conditions and determine diagnosis. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other specialised medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease or injury in infants. Collect, record and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports and examination results. Advise patients and their parents or guardians and community members concerning diet, activity, and hygiene and disease prevention. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatment with patients’ parents or guardians. Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Direct and coordinate activities of specialists, nurses and other medical staff. Plan, implement or administer health programs or standards in NSPH, for prevention or treatment of injury or illness. Prepare reports for government or management on death, disease statistics, workforce evaluations or medical status of individuals. Show clinical leadership, set standards, supervise junior Doctors and participate in management activity as requested. Administrative and audit duties, including those associated with the care of patients and the running of his/her department will be part of the post. Participate in the professional training of non-medical staff in the department. Research activities which are an inherent part of normal clinical duties will be encouraged. To contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and undergraduate and postgraduate training. The Consultant will be expected to participate in audit activities and to participate in continuing medical education in accordance with current requirements from the Heath Authority Abu Dhabi. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and documents and making changes as necessary/required. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. The position requires office work involving extensive use of the computer and inter-departmental coordination.The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to organisation emergencies.
