Job Description General Orthopedic surgeons treat most muscle and skeletal problems including arthritis congenital deformities or trauma injuries. They provide medical care by performing physical exams designing treatment and therapeutic plans and keeping track of patient progress to determine what needs to be done. They often perform back and spinal surgeries joint replacement surgery and repair fractures in bones. The surgeon is often in charge of the entire orthopedic department including the physician’s assistants nurses and surgery technicians. They will assign assistants and technicians to specific duties and surgeries and make sure everyone is taking part in helping the department to operate smoothly. The Orthopedic surgeon will use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat injuries to the musculoskeletal system. They are also concerned with genetic orthopedic conditions such as cerebral palsy may treat anything from amputation to joint replacement. Specific Tasks •Perform the external examinations and ascertains the root of the bone or muscle trouble. •Formulate the treatment plans properly. •Treat the musculoskeletal problems in the body •Mend fractures and sprains. •Treat bone and joint related problems like arthritis. •Perform joint replacement surgeries properly. •Responsible for treating the back and spinal injuries with the trauma as well. •Reconstruction of musculoskeletal tissues •Supervise physical examinations of patients like instructing for x rays MRI039s and various •other testing sources. •Plan and coordinate specialized patient care after the surgery. •Maintain manage and supervise medical records patient charts and various surgical and •hospital records whenever required. Orthopedic surgeons often are required to take some call during some nights and weekends depending on the arrangement of the hospital with which they are affiliated. If they do a lot of trauma related orthopedic surgery or specialize in trauma they may have a higher volume or frequency of oncall duties.
