JOB OVERVIEW Department: Whole College Reports to: College Leadership Team Must liaise with: Teaching Colleagues, Head of EAL, Admissions Effective Date: August 2016 Location: Cairo, Egypt Job Type: Full-Time PERSON SPECIFICATION Education – Graduate qualified teacher, Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area Experience – Experience running a successful Learning Support department and in working with students in the relevant age group. Experience in an international school is preferred but not essential. Experience of the British education system is preferred but not essential. Experience in raising achievement and setting aspirational targets is essential. Skills – Excellent leadership and administrative skills. Ability to analyse student data and promote student achievement. An understanding of how the learning continuum flows through the College. Able to use educational ICT to promote learning. Excellent knowledge of curriculum content and pedagogy. Proficient in using a variety of assessment and feedback techniques. Personal attributes – An exemplary practitioner who leads by example. Commitment to uphold and support the schools ethos. Commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme including extra-curricular activities and contribution to school community. OVERVIEW OF ROLE: The Head of Learning Support is responsible to the for the day to day operation of the school’s AEN policy and the day to day management and organisation of the Learning Support Team. They also have to liaise closely with the Head of EAL. The Head of Learning Support is expected to oversee the development and implementation of AEN planning, teaching, developmental IEP’s and support programmes. Specific responsibilities include the following; • Coordinating provision for children with additional educational needs. • Maintaining the school’s AEN register and overseeing the records on all pupils with special educational (or learning support) needs. • Ensuring liaison with the Head of EAL, Heads of School, specialist teachers, class teachers and tutors. • Advising and supporting teachers in respect of children with learning support needs. • Coordinating special arrangements for examinations as appropriate. • Ensuring liaison with parents and with external professionals as appropriate. • Liaising with the Admissions Team to ensure that there are appropriate resources to meet the needs of potential students. • Interviewing and assessing potential students. • Coordination of arrangements for new students. • Reporting to the College Leadership Team as appropriate. Promoting high standards of teaching and learning for students with AENs by: • Ensuring that LS staff and resources are deployed appropriately and effectively. • Overseeing planning, teaching, assessment, and recording of pupil’s development. • Implementing and facilitating an on-going programme of professional review and development for staff within the Learning Support Team. • Contributing to in-service training of staff. • Emphasising an awareness of ‘value added’ in all aspects of the department’s day to day work and record keeping. Brief Overview of Roles • To plan, develop and deliver educational programmes, which address and remedy the special educational needs of students at Malvern College Egypt. • To provide an educational environment conducive to the learning of the children in line with the school’s educational philosophy. • To identify the needs of individual students, structuring their learning so that they progress at a rate which challenges them within a secure environment. • To liaise with, and support teaching staff as required. MAIN DUTIES: • Creation of Individual Education Plans, and lessons within which pupils’ learning flourishes. • Teaching groups, individuals, and providing in-class support for students with AENs. • Facilitating access to the curriculum for children with AENs, adhering to school policies and curricular documents. • Modifying teaching materials and teaching methods to best meet children’s individual learning needs. • Identifying and teaching study skills and social skills that will develop pupils’ ability to work independently. • Monitoring and recording children’s progress, attainment and achievement in line with the school’s Learning Support policies and procedures, and general assessment policy. • Reporting to class teachers and parents in line with the school’s reporting and assessment policy. • Ensuring frequent and timely communication with teaching staff regarding: o timetabling and Learning Support for assigned students. o the most effective teaching approaches for individual students. • Developing and maintaining positive and productive professional relationships with colleagues. • Involvement in planning the curriculum. • Conducting interviews and assessments of potential students as required. • Attending meetings as required. • Contributing to in-service training as required. • Maintaining discipline in line with school policy. • Attending and supervising year group and class excursions as required.
