Department: Whole College Reports to: Headmaster Must liaise with: Head of Primary, Head of Secondary, Teaching Colleagues, Activities Coordinator, Head of Music/Performing Arts Effective Date: August 2016 Location: Cairo, Egypt Job Type: Full-Time PERSON SPECIFICATION Person Specification Education – Graduate qualified teacher, Bachelors degree in relevant subject area Experience – The person will be an experienced educator with an excellent track record of running a good sports department. Experience in raising achievement and setting aspirational targets is essential. Skills – Outstanding leadership, interpersonal and administrative skills. Ability to analyse student data and promote student achievement. An understanding of how the learning continuum flows through the College. Able to use educational ICT to promote learning. Possess an excellent knowledge of curriculum content and pedagogy. Be able to speak effectively at public meetings organised to deal with sport issues and the promotion of sport throughout the College. Personal attributes – An exemplary practitioner who leads by example who is committed to uphold and support the schools’ ethos. A desire to support all aspects of our programme including extra-curricular activities and contribution to the school community. Be prepared to work hard in a high performing, fee paying, Independent International School. The person will be able to carry great credibility with students, parents, staff and sport professionals both within and outside the MCE community as they develop the greatest school sporting centre in Egypt. OVERVIEW OF ROLE: Overview of Role: The Director of Sport is responsible for leading the development of sport and Physical Education across all age ranges of The College for students aged 2 – 13 initially. They have overall responsibility for sporting events and activities within and external to The College as well as supervising the lead teachers involved in the day-to-day academic work of the department. They will be a member of various Teams and Committees. This is a tremendous opportunity to set up a PE faculty from scratch with the full backing of administration to produce the finest school sporting programme in Egypt. There is a significant public relations role that is part of this post that runs alongside the development of the sport programme. The direction and management of performance by students, staff and visiting teams is a key element and will require liaison with Marketing at MCE and the Headmaster. MAIN DUTIES: Organisation, Leadership, Management Ensure the best possible quality of learning and teaching within the department ● Work with the teachers in charge of the PE curriculum to ensure challenging targets are set for departmental improvement plans ● Carry out regular learning reviews and an annual departmental review ● Ensure a healthy balance of sport and academics on the timetable ● Develop student leadership in both the playing and officiating of sport Community Provide leadership and vision for sport across The College with a particular focus on leadershipof large sporting events ● Provide leadership for the annual Sports Awards Dinner to showcase the department andits achievements ● Be the first point of contact for other schools and organisations who wish to be involved in sport at ● Malvern College Egypt ● Assist and monitor the work of the Heads of Sports when they are appointed Facilities and Equipment ● Advise the Operations Manager and other leadership staff where appropriate about potential health and safety issues ● Contribute to The College Improvement Plan in the area of sports facilities ● Ensure up to date records of equipment and team kits are maintained ● Ensure the correct storage and maintenance of all equipment, supplies and uniforms Financial and Budget ● Develop the annual departmental budget in line with College Improvement Plan priorities ● Monitor the departmental operational and capital budget allocations Health and Safety ● Ensure compliance with school safeguarding policies ● Ensure staff are aware of student needs and best practice in PE and sport ● Ensure policies relating to injuries and accidents in PE are adhered to and monitored for necessary action Services ● Organise and direct all tournaments and major sportingevents ● Represent The College at international, national or local associations ● Coordinate the annual sports calendar for approval by the College Leadership Team Staff support ● Plan the induction of new staff to the department, and liaising with them post appointment prior to the new academicyear. ● Promote Professional Learning and CPD in line with College policy, by identifying needs and assisting the PL Coordinator to find suitablecourses. ● Advise on annual staffing needs, after due consultation with department members. ● Manage Staff appraisal procedures, in line with Collegepolicy. Other ● Show leadership through action and example ● Ensure sports and PE events and programmes are well represented on the school website ● To undertake any other duties as requested by the Headmaster or members of the College LeadershipTeam.
