Head amp Supervisor Nursing JOB SUMMARY Designated as being in administrative charge of designated unitsdepartments. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is maintained utilizing a systematic approach to nursing. Providing direct patient care and ongoing supervision of clinical care ensuring an effective handover of all duties and required information at shift changeover. Ongoing review of practices and procedures and recommending improvements. Promotion of health education and direct involvement as appropriate with patients and relatives. Ensuring the medical plan of care is carried out clarifying any areas of uncertainty and in any dispute regarding clinical management referring the matter to the appropriate consultant. Assists Assistant Head Nurse in leadership development. Assists Staff Nurses in performance development. Administrative Ensures annual leave shifts and duties are allocated to nursing staff to ensure unit is adequately staffed throughout the 24 hours. Coordinates and monitors activities of staff and all services to patients Anticipates and identifies potentialactual problems and resolution of problems recommending changes to policies as necessary. Ensures effective communication within the unitdepartment between nursing staffpatientssignificant others and allied health care personnel reports all unusual occurrencesproblemsresolutions to the Assistant Director of NursingDirector of Nursing. Ensures optimal staff safety welfare and development participating in ongoing counseling and in the formal appraisal procedures promoting good staff relationships. Ensures the consistentaccurate preparation of nursing records. Assumes custodial responsibility for equipment maintenance of and ensures that staff are able to use unit equipment and that appropriate measures are taken to ensure proper maintenance ordering of unit supplies including pharmacy and ensures the most economic use of all resources both material and personnel. Maintains the control of storage and administration of drugs including narcotics. Assists with planningimplementing of change. Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of hisher knowledge skills and abilities as designatedassigned. Participates in TQM System Improvement Activities Participates in TQM System Control Activities Participates in TQM Staff Development Activities. Environmental Safety Awareness i.e. Disaster CPR Fire Infection Control TEACHING Provides direction and guidance to staff teaching by precept and example both clinical and management skills orientation of new staff to the unit.
