POSTDOCTORALPOSITION available to investigate the efficacy and mechanism of experimental drugs to treat infection caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Related to the malaria parasite Toxoplasma causes birth defects and lifethreatening infection in immunpromised AIDS or heart transplant patients. The successful candidate will continue the study of small molecules that interfere with stress responses and differentiation as a means to subvert acute and chronic parasite infection using in vivo and in vitro models see Konrad et al. Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2013 574181522. The candidate is also expected to employ state of the art genetic and biochemical approaches to determine the detailed mechanism of action for thesepounds.
