The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University invites applications to fill immediately a full time position as Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. Responsibilities are to provide instruction at the graduate level in the Department of Biomedical Engineering including laboratory and projects that help the student develop skills needed for jobs in industry and advanced degree programs. Duties include teaching of graduate level courses up to six courses per year as well as advising students enrolled in the Masters degree program in Biomedical Engineering. The Masters Degree program in the Department is expected to grow from 35 to about 55 graduate students per year over the next three years.
Applicants should hold at a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field including Mechanical Chemical or Electrical Engineering. Individuals with industrial experience a working knowledge of celltissue culture biomedical imaging biosignal processing biomechanics or medical device design and implementation are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must demonstrate an ability andmitment to teach at the graduate level as well as to mentor students. In addition the candidate will work with faculty located in both SEAS School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Columbia University Medical Center CUMC to develop a world class teaching program emphasizing interdisciplinary instruction in Biomedical Engineering. The candidate will be expected to pursue funding opportunities for innovative education to enhance the graduate curriculum.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent. Expertise in design andor prior industrial experience preferred. Individuals with a working knowledge of medical device design and implementation will be given the greatest consideration. Successful candidates must demonstrate an ability tomunicate well and amitment to teach and mentor at the graduate level as well as work with graduate students and faculty to develop a world class instructional program.
