The Saban Research Institute of Children's hospital of Los Angeles www.chla.orgsaban is seeking a Lab Manager for the Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Core. This is a new core facility that provides the expertise technical resources and instrumentation necessary to characterize perturbations in metabolism in mice and rats. Core services include
Metabolic cages for continuous monitoring and recording of foodwater intake including amounts and time patterns indirect calorimetry and spontaneous activity
An NMR for evaluation of whole bodyposition i.e. total body fat mass lean mass body fluids and total body water in live rats and mice
Metabolic tests such as blood draws glucose measurements and glucose and insulin tolerance tests.
In addition to a service role the core actively engages in independent research developing new experimental approaches and evaluating new technologies in metabolic research.
The Lab Manager reports to the core Director Dr. Sebastien G. Bouret Ph.D. and has responsibility for overseeing daily operation of the facility. Heshe will produceplex metabolic data and will assist with planning and execution of experiments monitor animals and perform imaging. Heshe will also help perform simple metabolic tests and will develop and evaluate new approaches.
Qualifications
Experience with rodent physiology including feeding behavior and metabolic analyses is highly rmended
Advanced degree preferred M.Sc. or higher with background in Physiology or related field. B.Sc. Candidates with a strong experience in metabolic research will also be considered
Strongmunication skills a service based orientation
Excellent interpersonal verbal and writtenmunication skills strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to work in a highly cooperative team environment as well as independently.
